Emergency exits & evacuation

What to do in case of fire alarm

When the fire alarm sounds, act immediately:

  • Leave the building via the nearest emergency exit. Don’t stop to gather your belongings or wait for others.

  • Always take the stairs.  Never use the lifts, even if you’re on a high floor.

  • Follow the instructions of staff in high-visibility vests. They are coordinating the evacuation and will guide you along the safest route.

  • Go directly to the assembly point at the waterfront behind De Krook (see map below).
This is where everyone gathers so Team Wintercircus can make sure everyone is accounted for.

    • Exiting via Makebaplein? Turn left immediately and take the Platteberg stairs. Makebaplein must remain completely clear for the fire brigade, so please don’t stop or gather there.

    • Stay at the assembly point until the all-clear is given. Updates will be shared via Slack, so keep an eye on your phone.

  • Wintercircus is a large and busy building with many different users, so a quick and coordinated response from everyone is essential.

Not sure whether the alarm is real or just a drill?  Always leave the building.
The same procedure applies to every fire alarm: no exceptions.

Assembly point

The assembly point for Wintercircus is at the waterfront behind De Krook , just a short walk from the building. This is where everyone  -Campus residents, Collective members, visitors and horeca guests- gathers safely, away from the building and clear of emergency services.

Exiting via Makebaplein? Turn left immediately and take the Platteberg stairs towards the assembly point. Makebaplein is the main access route for the fire brigade and must remain completely clear, so please don’t stop or gather there.

Once you reach the assembly point, stay there and wait for the all-clear from Team Wintercircus before returning to the building. Updates will also be shared via Slack, so keep an eye on your phone.

Emergency exits & evacuation plans

In case of an emergency, follow the green emergency exit signs to the nearest safe exit or emergency stairwell.
Once you enter an emergency stairwell, continue all the way down until you can’t go any further, then follow the exit signs leading outside.

Your nearest emergency exit depends on where you are in the building.
Evacuation plans are posted near the stairwells on each floor, so always follow the green exit signs rather than relying on a single route.

Below you’ll find the evacuation plans for all floors, from top to bottom, showing the emergency exits and evacuation routes for each floor.
